Gulfport, MS, was heavily damaged by Katrina. It's been four years but the impact is still evident. According to Hamp, our host, the city received millions in restoration funds with little result. Whole city blocks where houses once stood are vacant lots with For Sale signs in the front. Concrete slabs are the only thing left to indicate that there use to be a house on the property.
Luckily, Hamp's house withstood the storm. He is just 4 blocks from the shore. We enjoyed our visit with him. It has been 11 years since we were last here so Lucas certainly changed since Hamp saw him last. Nothing has changed here. Hamp drives the same Ford Explorer, sits in the same recliner and watches the same Magnovox tv. It's amazing.
